Just before 2000, "Leadership Medica",
too, wanted to celebrate with many of the doctors - both heads of hospitals
and university teachers - who have been collaborating with the magazine. Actually
Mr Casartelli, a high executive of the Lombard public health who substituted
councillor Borsani, who was absent due to serious family reasons, illustrated
in detail the results achieved in the last few years by the regional
councillor's office and the prospects of a sanitary policy that strongly
aims at a form of autonomy that is sometimes mentioned by law but is
almost never applied. This is demonstrated by the continuous disagreements
between the Ministry of Health and Regione Lombardia, which bear witness
to the clash between two entirely antithetic basic concepts. The
debate ensuing from this topic once more underscored that the issues
to be solved are always the same: the necessity, in Italy, to carry
out more research, the controversial process of privatization of health
organizations, the relations between local and central government, and
so on. Unfortunately, no one talked about the doctor-patient relationship,
a very important topic that is particularly subject to manipulation,
and which is never dealt with in an exhaustive way.
His
most beautiful cartoons published in our magazine have been collected
in a volume entitled "Meglio riderci sopra" (Better to laugh
about it), which was distributed to all participants. Many doctors asked
Congiu to sign the book; Congiu, who is a very shy person, at first
seemed to be very surprised by this welcome, but then he seemed to really
enjoy it. Among
the others, the party was attended by professor PaoloMantegazza, the
rector of Università Statale of Milan, professor Parenzan, a veteran
of heart surgery, professor Gattinoni, several executives of various
local health authorities, as well as several representatives of universities
and the press.
