Since long time is not anymore discussed the use of titanium needle in dental implantology. However the technique is useful and the results are good.It can be appllied in all the cases in which the other approach should fail, moreover the needle can be used with a minimum trauma. In this approach the needles are inserted in the mandibolar or maxillary bone. In this way the artificial teeth are anchored to the needles (1.2 mm diameter).

The small diameter of the needle allows to implant them even when the bone is very thin.

In this way can be avoided more invasive techniques, as the insertion of materials to widen the place where to insert more bigger implant. In fact this second approach is quite painfull, invasive and the results ara not always good.

The tecnique here described has been developed by a French dentist named Scialom. However unfortunately the techniques was left by the most who had used it.

This happened probably because any technique needs time to be developed. The learning curve can, in some instances, be long. In fact a good handling is needed. The difficulty to apply this techniques by any dentist has been a limiting factor in the widespread of its use.

More over the industries involved in this market prefer to favour the use of techniques that can be used by anyone.

For this reason it is a pity that this approach is not used in the Faculty and that few recognize its value.

This approach allows the patient to have almost immediately fixed teeth. The pain is reduced. When properly appllied the techniques is easily reproducible.

The needles are joined by a proper instrument. This instrument was developed in Genoa by Dr. Pierluigi Mondani.

It allows to hold toghether rapidly the titanium with no side effects. In fact the process is so fast that the tissue are not damaged.

However the use of this instrument is a limiting factor in the wide spread of the technique. Should be better to admit that the system is excellent and it requires properly trained dentists. This methodic is complementary approach to the other available as the technique of Branemark. This last technique uses quite big implant of a cilindric shape. They need a large bone to be implanted.

In my opinion less invasive approach should be applied in the era of endoscopic surgery. The technique of titanium needle is available tool in the hand of the experienced surgeon.
