I consigli del medico
Collana delle Edizioni Mediterranee.
Each one L. 25.000

The books published by Edizioni Mediterranee focus, on the one hand, on the so-called alternative drugs, and on the other on medical divulgation. This is the case of the series "The doctor's advice", which obviously addresses non-specialists, i.e. all those who suffer from certain troubles, without intending to be an alternative to the consultation of a real doctor.
Among the last volumes published, worth of mention are "Doctor's advice for rheumatic pains" (G. Kaganas), "Doctor's advice for eye treatment" (R. Bruckner), "Arthrosis" (K. D. Thomann), "Doctor's advice for backache" (P. Oldenkott) and "Women's vesical troubles" (H. J. Reuter, W. Epple and M. Reuter). It should be underlined that the editing of these books (which are easy to read and are sold at a low price) is carried out not by doctors committed to divulgation, but by specialists in the various fields, often coming from universities. This is a guarantee of quality, provided that readers do not think that these books can provide the right solution to all health problems.

Biotecnologia molecolare
Bernard R. Glick     Jack J. Pasternak
Zanichelli pp.  610   L. 138.000

This volume, now translated into Italian, has come to its second edition in North America, where it is published by the American Society for Microbiology. It is an exhaustive manual for the courses of biotechnology, recombinant DNA technology and genetic engineering and, more in general, an introduction to the current state of molecular biology.
It is almost needless to underline the importance biotechnological research has had in the last few years; scientists have made revolutionary (and sometimes also dangerous) discoveries, for example pharmaceutical products based on cloned genes. In the preface to the second edition, the two authors, who teach at the Canadian Waterloo University, emphasize the fact that this discipline has been making astonishing progress in the last four years from the first edition. What will the third edition have in store?

Igiene dei prodotti alimentari.
Normativa
Adriana Sordi
pp. 687   L. 60.000

Igiene degli alimenti e Haccp.
Modelli applicativi
Antonietta Galli  Alberto Bertoldi
pp. 359   L. 40.000
EPC LIBRI

Both volumes deal with the discipline regulated in Italy by the decree n. 155/97, which follows the European directive n. 93/43 concerning "food hygiene". Regulations concerning the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and its enforcement are rather complex and are rapidly evolving; therefore experts need constant updating.
As it was to be expected, books on this subject have multiplied. The work by Adriana Sordi is an anthology on existing Italian and Community laws. The work by Galli and Bertoldi, which has a more operational aspect, presents a summary of technical-scientific concepts, as well as a series of application models for the analysis and control of alimentary processes.
