This piece is the first one of a new column
dedicated to the planning of the physician work environment, care of architects
Eliana Colombo, Nicoletta Pellerito, Lucia Porta.
Every
piece would take into examination a case and it will be developed
approaching it the same way the relationship between commitment and designer
typically establishes, to analyze and solve the different issues, from
space subdivision to the finishing touches employment, and it will be complete
with illustrative tables.
Since the psychiatric physician
receives by appointment usually he searches for his practice a flat in
a concierge service building.
So the space we are going
to consider for the guide-plan concerns an apartment got from a big dwelling
house fragmentation in an ancient house, building typology where it is
easier to find a concierge to act as filter between external and internal.
The apartment in object,
nearly 50 sm. presents a classic local distribution, a great entrance,
a bathroom with an ante-bathroom and two rooms and its featured by the
three sides overlooks and the rich finishing touches.
The restructuring intervention
has been conservative to exalt the pre-existing the Venetian dot random
paving and nailed oak parquet, fish bone set with a perimetrical frame,
and the harmonious design doors and windows brought to light just polishing
them.

L'APPARTAMENTO IN ESAME DERIVA
DA UN FRAZIONAMENTO DI UNA GRANDE ABITAZIONE IN UNA CASA D'EPOCA. I LOCALI
CHE SARANNO DESTINATI A STUDIO MEDICO SONO:
(1) - UN INGRESSO
(2) - UN ANTIBAGNO CON BAGNO
(3) - DUE STANZE |
The two rooms have been opened
on each other pulling down the wooden partition and replacing it with a
library so to have only a room for the talk and the examining.
The new opening and
the wood partition building have allowed the generation of two bathrooms
(one for the physician and the other for patients) more functional than
the only one bathroom with the ante-bathroom of the flat first subdivision.

Planning
interpretation
According to the on force
norms this practice typology must be provided with a waiting room, a surgery
and a bathroom.
The waiting room must be
sound proof and it must be not visible from the surgery internal. The sheer
surgery must be cosy, not too big, using dark colours on walls. It must
be a 'good' environment, without being sumptuous, and it must not be featured
by many colours. It must infuse quietness.
The classic furniture organization
provides a desk, some sitting places and a place for relax, in the
area appointed for the talk; a bed and the medical equipment in the area
appointed for examination.
The only equipment near
the desk is the telephone and the answering machine which functions
during talks, and on the desk side the computer with a printer not
a sight. Informatics must be present, but in an unobtrusive way.

To arrange internal we suggest
a carefully made and comfortable suite of furniture without exceeding
in personalization.
The patient must be eased,
he must feel himself as a guest in an authoritative and quite place and
at the same time the physician must be put into the condition to establish
a 'complicity' relationship with the patient but to control always such
situation.
The professional must be
a screen where patient's fantasies performance.
The environment ornamental
elements must allow a talk width and must never be showed.
For this arrangement we
opted for the timeless elegance of the 'old England' fashion, mixing the
formal rigour of the woodworks and the warmth of the
cherry essence to realize them.
The waiting room is small,
for it serves to give hospitality to eventual attendants and for emergencies,
it is not necessary too much sitting places and must communicate the aimed
intervention.
We suggest setting a comfortable
environment, simply and sober, where it can be played diffuse music or
it can be employed a special apparatus to make the so-called 'white noise'.
It is suggested to employ
the green colour so to infuse relaxing sensations besides acting as a 'separation
wing' toward visitors.
In the psychiatric practice
the library is employed as a partition wall to create a diaphragm between
the talk area and the examination one.
It must be not overcharged
of books not to impression the patient who searches in his own physician
not only intellectual understanding, but fondness too.
That's why it must not exceed
in showing books.
On the desk lightening is
strong and directed, in the environment is diffused and light-points structured
(upward illumination floor lamp).
Substantially there's a
difference between the lightening of the writing place and that of the
talking place.
The examination area is
shielded but not separated from the practice. Such organization besides
being very functional underlines the cultural choosing of neither prevailing
the organicist attitude over the psychological one, nor vice versa .
UNO STUDIO MEDICO PER LO
PSICHIATRA (3) |
For, as Oliver Sacks writes
in his prologue to 'An anthropologist in Mars', ... if it's true that it's
possible to get horrified facing the devastation produced by mental disturbs
or by growth diseases, it is true the same that sometimes it is possible
to consider them as creative events, since, not withstanding the destruction
of special ducts, ways of doing things, nevertheless they can force the
nervous system to open new ways and find new methods, inducing it to grow
in an unexpected way.' |
