Scientific activities

Research activities have essentially been conducted along the following basic lines:

a) The fine-tuning of histochemical methods for acid mucins in order to establish their specificity and practical means of execution, introducing two new staining methods for the first time.

b) On the basis of the technical data deduced from prior research, the study of the problem of the composition of the secretion of human salivary glands and those of various animal species, and the variations in cases of neoblastic processes.

c) Studies on the practical application possibilities of cytology in the diagnosis of neoplasia, with particular reference to sampling techniques from the deep organs, difficult to diagnose by other methods.

d) Experimental cancerogenosis studies to compare the cytological pictures of the precancerous states by chemical agents with those identifiable in Man during screening surveys for the diagnosis of neoplasia.

e) Studies on the application of diagnostic cytology in practice, with particular reference to fine-needle aspiration biopsies.

f) Studies for the identification and early diagnosis of breast cancer and for a rational engagement of instrument-based diagnostic methods in the diagnosis of neoplasia of the thyroid.
