Ever more communication, the nervous system of the world organism, must reckon with itself and the ability to self-control, that means to bring forward itself, to self-
censure, to select what 'passes' and that 'must not pass'. It concerns a matter inwards and outwards Internet, its 'democratic' but also invasive potentiality, without restraint and filters. But it is enough other means, quite more traditional, quite more edible, quite more widespread, that if required may defend themselves opportunely, censure, show fear to communicate critics to communication: I'm talking about movie, newspapers, television and I submit you three wonderful questions related to these fields. For the cinema, the more meaningful event planet level is the Oscar awarding. The Oscars conquered by Roberto Benigni, the para-Zionist polemics about his picture “La vita è bella”, the Italian internal diatribes
etc. etc. have marginalized a consideration that other way could have surfaced with a far different evidence. It had not “nomination” and so it has not been awarded an out of common picture by an extraordinary director as the Australian Peter Weir is, that is “The Truman show”, apparently since it critics till cruelty the television way of life, passive and sterile. By the means of the movie, communication brings to trial itself, its ideas, values and customs: to cut a long story short the picture can be made, but it cannot be drawn consequences that are too much 'excessive, visible, remarkable, positive', so it cannot be awarded. Let's get to the press: on March, more or less in the same days of the Hollywood Oscar prize-giving, it burst a polemic about our super minister for economy, Ciampi, one of the
candidates (real or simulated) to succeed Scalfaro at the Quirinale. Talking about this matter the Green's spokesman, senator Manconi, has asserted that “Ciampi was not a Mason “ as they said, a rumour coming from the ambulatory of the politics but informally, and periodically recurring. An important daily has slammed it in front page, Ciampi has denied and has sued the newspaper, Manconi has confirmed that in fact he had said that he was 'not', a Mason I mean, and to have done that to soften the climate, so that the rumour could not leave as the sword of Damocles over the head of the candidate, and so to have expressed that with a 'good intention'. In my daily radio broadcast, “Radioacolori”, I went back to the event since it matters to me, not so much out of the contents that is
if Ciampi were or not a Mason, as out of the communication way and mode. And I made as an example for the radio listeners this kind of question: if I tell you not to attend rumours and gossips since Radioacolori will “not “ close, what do you think, how do you interpret my 'no' news, that is a denial made as a negative assertion? The result was that a hundred of listeners called to complain and to support that “Radioacolori must not close “. If we let a “no news “ pass, a denial of a not publicized news, we are manipulating information at root, maybe with 'good intentions' but that matters few, if it were aimed to other purposes it would be the same. It is the communication that is mining its way risking exploding. The matter is that at this communication stratospheric level risks are proportional: there's a stratospheric danger to mistake any message. How to defend from this “not” said
as a positive assertion to which it must be changed the sign since our brain thinks positive before changing image? That is: if I say that an elephant does not fly, first I image or make others image even for only a second a flying elephant, to store then the news that the elephant does not take off. Think about what phenomenal communication matter there's behind all this, naturally set apart by who lives, works and maybe prospers in this marsh of signs. I promised you a third example, television genre and to be more exact inherent the advertising television communication strictly intended. I keep it for next time so you can start prefiguring something...
