Iperborea uses to propose to Italian redaers northeuropean authors, which are
not known yet. This is the case of Jan Jacob Slauerhoff, Dutch poet and novelist,
died in 1936 (when he was only 38). The novel is located in Mexico, at the beginning
of the century, when early revolutionary tumults try to defeat the usual apathy.
The main character is “El Vidriero”, a strange figure which appears in Guadalajara
and is mistaken for a new Messiah.
The title of this book - “Initiation to happiness” - may seem too easy such as those simple formulas (which “new agers” like so much) to reach physical and spiritual well-being. Actually these books draw readers’ attention, since they propose a different perspective, an unusual way to watch daily life.
These Rodolfo Graziani’s memories are a really interesting testimony on Pre-Repubblican
history of Italy. Graziani was one of the most important officers during Fascism:
governor of Somalia in 1935, Field Marshall of Italy in ‘36, Chief of staff
during the Republic of Salò. The final part of the book is dedicated to an unpublished
“Diary”, regarding the period april-december ‘45, which Graziani spent in an
English detention field, in Algiers.
