"THE PROVIDERS"THE PROJECT OF SONDALO

1.4 The Providers

The provider is mainly an Internet access supplier. For a company or for an economic situation as ours that must offer a service, just having the presence on Internet the reason
for existing, the selection of a Provider becomes a strategic choice to ensure the success of one's own undertaking. It can be highlighted four different reasons leading an Organization to look for a Provider so to be able to be present on Internet :

I. PRESENCE AND ADVERTISING
This case the basic target is that to make the company marks or one's own services to be known on the net by a popular mean like a kind of electronic shop-window.

II. COMMUNICATION
The web is employed as a coming into contact point for customers or services users, to supply backing or to communicate, for novelties, up-dating....

III. PRODUCTS SALES
Some sectors working in the production or distribution fields could have interest in trading their own products via Internet putting into act the so-called electronic trade.

IV. SERVICES SUPPLY
A minority of services companies employs Internet for the distribution and diffusion of their innovative services.

An introducing consideration is obligatory: while for a private the geographical closeness is one of the main criteria for choosing a Provider, for an organization searching qualified service, this aspect is less important. Paradoxically, an Italian company that must advertize its own mark on foreign markets could decide to rely on a United State provider for this task, so to have a more efficient service and more fast access. Let's sum up now the list of solutions:

I. RENT OUT PAGES
This is the ideal solution for who is interested into the mere presence on the net; almost all Providers offer the possibility to publish some Pages within their Web Server. Costs are page/year related or, in some cases, regard also the disc space occupied.

II THE STAND-ALONE SERVER
The use of a stand-alone server points out a clear choice to link one's own company image to the net image, but contrariwise what somebody believes, does not compel at all to run inside the company a machine where the web server program can be run. Providers can manage the machine directly. The stand-alone server allows generally having a certain interactivity degree with users. It is to notice that for this kind of presence it suits always rely on a prime provider having a presence on Internet of certain relevance.

III WEB PLUS GATEWAY:
This choice requires the previous level stand-alone server to be completed by a programme, linking to a database so to manage users data, eventual orders and other items, containing information related to them, to be displayed or anyhow to be put on availability of users. These link programmes, called gateway make web pages at instant (in a dynamic way) since the database, taking eventually into account who is the connected user.

IV. VIA WEB ACCESS DISTRIBUTED APPLICATIONS:
This level fits those organisations intending to use Internet to sell their own products and services. It is optimal in the case when installing a server on a company's machine, highlighting this way that the Internet employ belongs to one's company culture and it's not strategically recommended relying on others. This case the provider carries out the sole task of allowing the connection of your machine to Internet by an exclusive line that must be digital compulsorily (CDN) and 64 kbit/sec. at least. It's important to apply for only the major providers also to prevent bottlenecks in the path from one's own server toward Internet. Features characterizing it must be the follows: * Backbone Internet connection of a certain consistence (at least 512K) * Web server, D.B server, important equipment maintenance and running capability as described in Cap. 3. * 24 hours a day service availability * Installed applications maintenance

1.5 Language selection

English is surely the widespread language over the Internet world, as well as in the informatics world. But we must not forget that the systems is applied in a field as the health one wherein medical terminology and overall official documents, are strongly related to the language of the nation papers have been written. That does not mean that we do not want our system, just because on Internet, to have an international accessibility: for example we want to allow physicians carrying out first aid to an 'Italian' Patient at a First Aid in the States, or that are taking care of an 'Italian' Patient in a Japanese Hospital, to board information about his health state. So it has been decided that in the first phases the system will be activated in mono language (Italian) modality, but it must be arranged so to work in future on bilingual modality (Italian- English).
