Il cerchio celtico

Bjorn Larsson

Edizioni Iperborea pp. 409

Only adventure can nourish a bored spirit and restore a taste for life. Only the open sea and a boat can fill the heart and mind of a person born to be a sailor.

These are the assumptions behind the novel of the famous Swedish author, Larsson, a regular sailor in his boat “Rustica”. As for many sailors, for Larsson as well, his boat is more than a thing, it is worthy of affection and consideration because it has a personality of its own that rides the waves resolute and determined.

On the “Rustica”, a breathtaking plot begins, worthy of a real thriller, set in the nineties between Denmark and Scotland. The intrigues of a secret organisation that dreams of freeing the Celtic nation launch the protagonist into an adventure where challenges, passions and encounters follow the quick rhythms of the sea.

I luoghi della storia

Sergio Romano Rizzoli

Ed.Rizzoli -pp. 525

Recent history has been so packed with ideological superstructures as to appear obvious and even rather tedious. A pity really because all we need do is not suffocate the spirit over school books alone, but grasp the sense of an event from several sources and give intelligence free rein. History starts in the narrator’s (protagonist’s) present and that is why, as Croce said, history is always contemporary.

It inevitably reflects the thoughts, interests and goals that predominate in the writer’s period. Sergio Romanoha’s book has exactly this principle as its guideline: the 20th century, full of events and ideological and political upheavals, can and must be observed in the light of what is happening today, detached from all the rhetoric interpretation of who has won and who has lost, with clarity, the ability to analyse, but above all with conciseness.

His clean, witty, clear and concise style makes for pleasant reading, even for those that do not agree with what he says, because everyone feels the need for a brilliant and cultured interlocutor with whom to contend, even if only in reading, sat in an armchair in front of the fire.
