Since few years the Gabriele Cancedda's active attendance in the art field has given work to the critics that has always commented on positively his remarkable work. All that not only for his persevering investigation, furthermore for his technical abilities to argue the inwards experiences, surely not diverging from the daily work of the artist operating in the advertising graphics as Art director. All the oil or watercolour Cancedda's painting places between a fantastic nature, sometimes crossed by a hypernaturalistic feature, a motivation toward truth and a recovery of an intensive, strong and sensuous classicism. Genre and costume painter, of tradition too (specially of his land, Sardinia), still life and sublime imagination. He has the absolutely mastery of the formal means showing equilibrium of lines, colours, lights and forms His ability is directed to structural needs and narrative interest, with a stylistic evolution plenty of images of psychological intimate introspection. A singular grip on reality keeps him rooted inside life, as far as that nowadays his painting can be well defined the painting of reality. In fact, it is since he was fifteen that Gabriele Cancedda has familiarity with colours and forms. And even he's young, he has already 24 personal expositions behind him in Italy and abroad, having a remarkable fame as a Sardinian painter, full of talent. The classicism of subjects, adequate to the regional painting with singular colours and tone, never cold but sometimes plenty of emotiveness, goes toward a light that is memory of ancient beauties, almost a dig of symbol beaten by a pouring of colours. Images are sensible to a tale of his and our times, better dug in that surroundings of places where the artist lives, actuality and chronicle needing breath and continuous reflection. These pictorial notes that sometimes offers an approach to sociology and cultural anthropology (see the Sardinian women dressed with black clothes) expressing an ancient conscience, soak into a sensitive game that with the softer tones, just as a master of atelier, evokes the preciousness that rises his artistic season to an admirable luck. Someone has talked to me about him as a new leader of the Variation Art movement, but more than the denomination of the name it is important the articulated motivation of his investigation, his passionate, strong feel of world and its things. Art, notwithstanding all its variations, conretizes into an explosion of energies crossing flashing not only the imagination but tickling its experience turning into poetry. Cancedda does not need at all to recall images, his are as discovered from inwards, coming from a good school and a solid academy, from that world where colours, here moved to resettle the motes material, weave and intelligent spatiality.
