We are taking a look at the young painter, Gianluca Corona, just thirty years old, whose work is being displayed from 11th to 26th November at the Rotunda in San Carlo al Corso in Milan, presented as an important moment of recognition.

Here begins the journey of one the most fortunate painters in our time, who has marked the development of Italian art and has inserted his work into the great figurative tradition. The tradition that has recently found some more examples in the so-called “School of reality” which the great Tuscan artist, Pietro Annigoni, can be considered to belong to as well.

There are portraits, flowers, still-lifes, objects, interior landscapes. The wide ranging investigation sheds light on his artistic journey - through a series of moments and bursts of energy - towards an art that expresses the spirit, using a network of psychological data and reflections, and turns its attention to parts of the body never before observed so carefully. So, certain twists of the body, a particular movement of the hands, are not only a reason of shapes and techniques, but a skilful play on reality, always relived anew.

It is surprising how this clean-cut young man, before becoming an artist, was able to identify a pictorial path where the light, the surprising light of his paintings - magical, innocent, full of flashes, and radiant beauty - could engage in this sort of clean morality. Early on, Persico - the illustrious critic from the 1930’s - had spotted this quality in the Lombard “chiarists”.

A precious monograph displays not only his paintings but also the sanguine beauties, the charcoal designs, the preparatory studies, the phases of work that attracted his attention, caught his eye.

To readers of Leadership Medica, the idea of introducing young artists to the attention of the public should not seem unusual. It means that today more than ever, having faith in a future of past values and memories, where painting, and especially a certain kind of painting, marks the cornerstone in a much more hard-won construction.

The signs, designs, shapes and colours of the young Gianluca Corona reveal the true meaning that lies under the skin of his works, in other words, his praise of the beauty, that unmistakable eternal beauty that is not appreciated only superficially, but grows and lives in the soul. In that spirituality that can be seen in the eyes, in the vision that Corona would strive to narrate to us like a long novel.

Beautiful flesh-colours, the petals of flowers and fruits, the whites where shadows work their subtle magic: everything is savoured in this painting, that will certainly find higher and more literary comparisons in the future. ( traduzione Interpres SaS- Giussano)
