Curriculum

Born in Florence on 13.3.1944, he graduated with honours in Medicine in Florence in 1968.

He was appointed Assistant Professor at the Institute of Pharmacology, Florence, in 1971.

In 1977-78 he worked as Fogarty Fellow in the Center for The Biology of Natural Systems, Washington University, St. Louis, U.S.A.

In 1980 he was Visiting Scientist at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, U.S.A, and in 1981-82 he was Visiting Scientist at the Department of Environmental Toxicology, Madison WI, U.S.A.

In 1983 he was appointed Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Florence and in 1986 Tenured Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Florence, which post he still holds.

He has been a consultant on pharmacological and toxicological issues for the Tuscany Region, for the Ministry of the Environment, for the WHO and for the European Commission.

He was also a member of the USA-Italy Joint Commission for Scientific Cooperation.

He is member of the American Association for Cancer Research and Editor of the European Journal of Nutrition. Research activities.

Prof. Dolara’s research work mainly focuses on environmental toxicology and carcinogenesis, with special reference to carcinogenesis of the colon and its relations with diet in both animal models and human cases.

He has recently concentrated on the study of certain genetic determinants of toxicological and neoplastic responses in both animal models and human cases.

He has published over 130 complete original articles in international scientific reviews, numbering Science, Nature, Cancer Research, J. Nutrition, Carcinogenesis.

Experience in research coordination.
He has coordinated many national (CNR, MUIR) and international (EU programmes: AIR, FAIR, ESCODD, POLYBIND) research programmes.

He is currently the Italian coordinator of the Network of Excellence NUGO (European Nutrigenomics Organization).
