The
atmosphere is charged in Parliament, and in order to affirm his
leadership of the center-left, Rutelli is once again making scathing
remarks, prolonging the climate of the electoral campaign.
All this may be useful for Rutelli, but certainly not for the
crops he’s growing (Ulivo [“olive tree”], Margherita [“daisy”],
etc.) Although it represents continuity over time and solidity,
the Ulivo has proven to be very fragile, perhaps because it was
planted by someone not skilled in farming.
As we all know, the Margherita is used by lovers who strip it,
petal by petal, while reciting the classic verse, “He loves me,
he loves me not.” Carnation or rose, rose or daisy - what flower
will spring up next? Over on the center-right, there’s a continual
back-and-forth of names for the top posts, as well as for the
lower ones.
Bossi’s statements indicate - official assertions to the contrary
- that he is still unpredictable, and perhaps because of this
Berlusconi is protecting himself with the group presided over
by D’Antoni, politically close to Forza Italia.
Lots of gossip, and plenty of names bandied about: the only sure
bets are Berlusconi as president of the council of ministers,
Fini as vice president, and the others...?
The ministry that is of most interest to us is health, but no
names for this post have yet been proposed.
However, one important fact is the noticeable presence among the
new deputies of the medical profession, which has surpassed attorneys.
We hope that in this parliament the heavy presence of health-care
workers ensures that health management will not be subject to
constant changes that leave public opinion perplexed.
Everyone will be conscious of and familiar with the problems in
their own regions, and will be able to influence the choices.
We shall see. Next time, we will be able to talk about what actually
happened. |
