Ombretta Colli councillor in Milan

Giuseppe Tandoi
About Ombretta Colli many know her past artistic records, but maybe not everybody knows about the politic activity she carries on since some years in a plenty and keen way. First there was the candidacy and following election at the European parliament, in the ranks of Forza Italia and lately with the election of the town mayor Albertini at Milan, the welfare services councillorship, an important and onerous responsibility.

Councillor, how did it take hold the turning point making you dealing personally with politics?
My choice comes from a dissatisfaction I shared with a lot of Italian citizens. I deem our country is stagnant under its possibilities and that there's a general password summed up in 'nothing can be done'. Sake! Doing something is real difficult, since the public administrative law in Italy is very complex. Nevertheless if there's determination and the will to change something can change...

Instead?
“Instead it is going on by paths ever more dangerous and meandering. The Bassanini's reform, for example, only encourages bureaucracy: the state still wants to deal with everything and that does not carry neither services nor opportunities, but only a huge mass of paper.”

In fact only who has a daily contact with public administration can have a clear criteria to evaluate it...
“In the case of the councillorship I hold also users can have this daily contact, since this councillorship is rather direct. If a person with a disabled son applies for us, we must give the boy the possibility to live a less hard life, by the means of initiatives we have started in the specific field.

During your activity as an European parliamentarian you sensed that you engagement turned into something concrete or it concerned only an interlocutory experience?
“I was vice-president of the Social Affairs committee, and at any extent it must taken
into account the fact that the 40% of the Italian law are an emanation of the European directives. Further this three years engagement in Europe must be considered as the opening key of this charge.”

It has been its logic consequence...
“That's right. It must be reminded that, European level, there are a lot of finances we do not get, a little for we do not know they exist, a little because the same European bureaucracy is far entangled, without considering the problem of the European partners.”

So the experience as European parliamentarian has helped you to get the charge of councillor.
“In fact. We have had many European allocations related to field within we operate. Some of these finances were destined to recover in Milan three railings houses turning them to health and care centres and for old people, centres for Alzheimer patients and so on...

Where does the choice of Forza Italia come from since you have never want to hear about party cards?
“It has been a libertarian choice. I believe a lot in individual in his possibility to give persons the will to invent. We, the Italians, taken singly and not as a mass, are out of common persons. In the two thousand years Italian history, Italians have been always protagonists, starting form the ancient Rome to Marconi and Meucci, who by their discovers in the communication field widened the road to the third millennium.

Let's make a balance, at the mid of the course, of the Albertini's town council and your councillorship in detail.
Without any doubt the Albertini's town council gave a good “updating “, even if two years for a new management, both public and private, are few. It's impossible to make miracles, but a little miracle has been done, from the reorganization of the municipality machine, by the sale of the 49% of the AEM, to the urbanistic set of rules, this town has not had for years.

Sometimes mass media talk about conflicts even inside the same majority. Instrumental polemics or there's something true?
“I think it concerns mostly instrumental use, even if it's evident that certain decisions, even important, must be taken knowing that they do not meet the consent of the entire town council.

A project your councillorship would like to realize within the administrative period.
“By now there are 23 building yards to recover our three great rest homes, creating spaces that till some years ago were not necessary. I'm talking about the diffusion of the Alzheimer disease, a pathology carrying very hard consequences over families. But there also a series of lighter initiatives, for example the Olympiads for disabled, we host on May for the second consecutive year.”

Talking about a councillorship as yours managed by a woman, who also as an artist was engaged in the social field, it is natural to talk about equal opportunities. What's your opinion about, in general?
I feel this matter a little annoying in the sense that I defended women when there was a family law rather 'picturesque'. But nowadays the matter is cultural, if a son is used to see both parents taking their responsibilities he will not be aware anymore about sex differences. What matters is professionalism. So welcome to the equal opportunities committees, provided that they are not only a dialectic question.

Do you think that at least in Milan this problem has been overcome?
As far as I have heard I think it is, it does to seem to me that there is any kind of barring toward women, as it is proved, among others by the composition of my councillorship. Another think is the choice of women to get on - and nowadays work is indispensable for women, also economically - often corresponding to giving up to family.

In the Albertini's town council there a wide representation of persons coming from the private and having not been involved in politics before. What do they think about the national parliament?
“Beyond the political alignments and the legislative activity, naturally important, the local administration is not linked to the usual political attitudes. At any extent I deem uncivil that our country has a government as a result of a displacement of chairs at Montecitorio.”

What do you think about security of Milan?
It's easy to say from the top that the town is sure. It is not true! It is sure for those moving with escort. It is less sure for the girl getting home a nine and half in the evening by metro or going along an isolated street.

You will candidate for the European parliament again.Which are the Union's outlooks?
It's important it will not be the Europe of the bankers and money, but a political and culture Europe. For example it does note make any sense that other countries do not help us to face the continuous landing of clandestine on our coasts. It urges a new law about immigration to prevent the Italian situation becoming in the next ten years a powder keg. .

Finally a dream to realize by the means of your councillorship.
I would like to create a “citadel of the old", as those of Lion and a project I 'm preparing to help young couples wanting to marry, but prevented from due to economic problems. If we succeed in giving incentives for two years, till the new family establishes, we will make a great pace forward.

An ambitious project, finances allowing it...
We'll start with what we have.
