Eugenio Caradonna is born in Bari, Italy, in 1955.
Scholar and training
- 1981: Degree in Medicine and Surgery with honours at "la Sapienza" University, Rome.
- 1986: Specialization in Cardioangiosurgery at the Specialization School of "La Sapienza" University, Rome.
- 1981-82: Training in the Department of Cardiosurgery, Policlinico Gemelli, Rome
- 1987-88: Research Fellow at the Arrhytmias Center of Department of Cardiosurgery of the University of London, Ontario, Canada (headed by prof. Guiraudon)Professional
-1982-83: Intern at the Cardiosurgery Division, Policlinico "Gemelli", Rome
- 1983-86: Intern at the "St. Antonius" Department of Chest and Heart Surgery, Utrecht

Dr. Caradonna's scientific activities have especially involved:
1) Post-cardiosurgery intensive care He was the first in the world to apply amrinone in low post-output syndrome, presented at the Marseille Convention (1984)
2) Mitral repair techniques The "edge to edge" technique is innovative
3) Myocardial protection The studies on reflow damage are of particular interest. A research protocol on this subject was also set up at the Department of Pathology of the University of London, Ontario.
4) Surgical treatment of arrhytmias The procedure as described by prof. Guiraudon was introduced into Italy by Dr. Caradonna. Surgical case history - Participation in more than 4,000 cardiosurgical operations involving all the heart disorders. The clinical outcomes show an overall morality rate of 2,5%.
