The Fiorentina's
impetuous going on does not succeed anyhow in shelving what is becoming
the big thriller of the '98/99 season. Indeed it is going on the inquiry
about the presumed use of forbidden substances in the football world. Only
few weeks ago, after the summer polemic started by Zednek Zeman, the
Roma's coach, it seemed all cleared in nothing. The Coni's President, Pescante,
resignation and the alarming ad that practically the whole team of Parma
was found positive at the anti-doping checks, almost starting the championship,
have made the football world plunging back into a very real chaos. The
impression is that the entire balloon world is at a real crossway and that
divergent interests are forcing it toward the more desirable solution,
that is clearness and truth. In a kind of fight, all against all , accusations
cross each other and everybody relieves onself from all responsibilities
about the employ of forbidden substances, employed or to be employed by
athletes. Very weighty especially some declarations of an ex responsible
of the antidoping laboratory of Acquacetosa in Rome, which has revealed
high level pressure, real inexistent, by the Federmedici, to shelve
suspected practices of substances and showing data out of the tolerance.
There is in fact someone who wants to burst out what could be a real as
well as devastating chain reaction, able to affect all and all people and
take away reliability to a colossal toy that moves hundreds billions per
year. As well as, on the other side, there is who resists and who sermonizes
one's own full extraneousness to certain practice, very few admissible.
Experienced as I am as a dilettante football player the absolute
clearness of the football world brings me serious doubts. Too many economic
interests hide behind a victory or a defeat to make think it may slip away
without attempting to manage the result. We would not like to exaggerate
but it is to consider, keeping the sense of proportions, that Tangentopoli
begun just alike, discovering a little illegal golden handshake in the
Mr. Chiesa bag. And now if it were possible investigating it deeply, would
it be found something alike also in the physicians' and trainers' cases?
