THE BLACK VENUS WINS AT THE FORO

43 years from the last coloured tennis player, Athea Gibson, Rome crowns another coloured athlete. Venus Williams is the winner of the female International of Italy. An overwhelming victory that this point launches a serious warning to the top management of the female tennis. Venus is ready to attack the first positions ranking. To defeat Hingis and Pierce in this order in the two decisive final matches with a mix of sang-froi and certainty is surely a remarkable enterprise. But maybe it must be underlined, in the economy of top rivalries, how the elder of the Williams sister is about to legitimate her own chasing the very high position of the tennis by winning on every field. Grown up in the ghetto of Los Angeles among a lot of troubles Dad Richard, a so ambitious man as well as exhibitionist, Venus, together with her sister, has treaded since she was a child the tennis field of a hard quarter. A remarkable appeal has featured her teenage growth, allowing her a privileged entry in the professionalism world. Her middle-distance runner levers and a tonic and elastic muscular structure have soon stroke managers. It remained to refine the tennis strategy, the schemes on field and mainly to work over her game ductility on the different fields. This purpose the success at Rome, strictly following that of Hamburgs on hard court, testify as the tactic change of Venus is almost completed. After having paid the usual duty to inexperience, losing almost won matches in the past season, Williams has started to frame and canalise her tennis, sometimes too much aggressive for more reasoned solutions. Hingis, the current number one, is a player impossible to be defeated alone, mainly in fields where it's impossible to close the match with few beats. Till a year a go the Swiss, all phosphor and talent had succeeded to bridle the American arrogant schemes. Now it is not a case that the black Venus of the world tennis starts surprising Martina with a certain intensity. An ever more important signal is the fact that these victories come from matches that did not end in brief, but at the end of little marathons. As in the semi-finals at the Foro where Williams has succeeded at the third set being at 75. So strained matches, taking a very high energy and mind effort, are won thanks to lucidity and few guessed tactic choices. If Venus, as she has proved it, is almost annulling the gap of shrewdness and desuetude by privileging force to control, the female tennis is really very close to have another queen. The Roland Garros at the gates will show more about.  Leadership Medica®
